The faculty and staff of Central Baptist Preschool are committed Christians called by God to teach, train and minister to the whole child: spirit, soul, and body. We believe our teachers are important role models and have a tremendous impact on the lives of our children. They will teach and evaluate, plan and prepare, relate and counsel, pray and care.
Our staff looks forward to serving the needs of your child. Please pray for them and give them your respect and encouragement.
Hello! I am thrilled to be the Preschool Director at Central Baptist Church. Feeling God’s leading and knowing I am an instrument in His almighty plan is such a rush! To be called to be a part of this awesome ministry with little children is a true blessing. Growing up in a small town in Eastern North Carolina, I have a true appreciation for the town and community of Wendell. Because I have spent the last twenty-five years working in Raleigh, Cary and the Heritage area of Wake Forest, I have an understanding of the growth that Wendell is expecting. Living in Rolesville for the past ten years has also provided me with a fresh image of extreme growth. My Bachelor’s Degree is in the field of Early Childhood Education. After I received this degree from Meredith College, I began my career in licensed child care in Wake County. I taught for a couple of years and then became the Assistant Director of a small school in Raleigh at the age of 23. From then to now I have been a preschool administrator and I love it. It is what God has equipped me to do. In 2011, the North Carolina Licensed Child Care Association named me the state Director of the Year. As a member of Rolesville Baptist Church, I enjoy serving as a Deacon, a choir member, and a Bible study leader. When I joined the church in 2006, I helped start a WMU Youth On Mission group. Today I lead a WMU Women on Mission group. God just keeps on using me and I couldn’t be happier! In 2012 I married my husband, William. Now I have a stepson, Nathan, too. My family grew from just me to three of us overnight! I look forward to getting to know your family, especially your children. Trust me when I say I consider it a great privilege to be such an intimate part of your lives. This relationship is extremely important to me, as I hope it is to you. Please keep me informed of your needs and desires so we can discuss how I can help achieve these things for your family. I am here to serve you and our Lord, Jesus.
It is such an honor to be here at CBC Preschool. I graduated with my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology in May of 2013 and began working here at Central in September of that same year. I began as a substitute/floater and moved to a position as co-teacher in the Dragonflies class. I then moved to the front office where I served as the preschool’s Administrative Assistant for two years. I was ecstatic when, earlier this year, I was granted the opportunity to become the Assistant Director. I cherish every day that I get to see your sweet little ones grow, explore, and learn about God’s love for each of them! I will soon graduate from Liberty University Online with my Master’s Degree in Professional Counseling, and will go on to specialize in Play Therapy. I am excited to see what the Lord has in store for CBC Preschool in the coming years. I adore building relationships with each of our fantastic preschool families, and look forward to meeting new families soon! Please do not hesitate to reach out to me here at the center with any needs that may arise. Be Blessed!
Hey, I’m Nikki! I am originally from just outside of Greenville, NC. I moved to Wendell in 2014 and I have worked here at CBC Preschool since then. Initially, I worked as an afternoon assistant for the Fireflies class, then the Crickets. In my second year here, I began working as a full time co-teacher, and in May of 2017 was asked to step in as Administrative Assistant. I have served in various ministries of my church for many years and love being able to see the Lord working in the lives of young children. I intend to go back to school in the Fall for early childhood education. I am so excited and humbled by the opportunity to work with each of your children every day, and I count it such a joy to be able to watch them explore the world around them while learning about Jesus’ love for them!
My name is Laurel Heffner. I am pleased to have been with Central Baptist Church Preschool since its opening. I served as Assistant Teacher in the Infant Room, and as Lead Teacher in both the Bumblebees and Fireflies rooms before becoming the Education Specialist in August 2015.I hold an Associate in Applied Science in Secretarial Science from The University of Akron and the State of North Carolina Early Childhood Credential. Working with children has always been rewarding to me even as a teenager working with immigrant children and being a nanny during college. For the past sixteen years I have served in preschool and children’s ministry in various capacities such as Bible Study leader, Sunday School teacher, Sunday School Preschool Director, and Vacation Bible School teacher. I have also homeschooled for ten years. My husband and I have three children. Our oldest child is working as a chemist, our middle child is a mutual fund research analyst, and our youngest enters high school in 2017. Our house of worship and service is The Passage Church in Wendell. If I were to name a life verse it would be Colossians 4:2. “Continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving.” I like to read, attend our children’s events, and spend time with my family.
Hi everyone! My name is Lisa Jones, and I currently serve as the Ministry Liaison for Central Baptist Church/ CBC Preschool. As the founding director of CBCP, this place has always held a very special place in my heart. I have often said that I know the Lord has His hand in what we do here at CBC Preschool. It has been amazing to see this center grow over the past seven years. Watching your little ones grow in their walks with Jesus is such a rewarding experience. Although I resigned as director a few years ago, my heart was always with CBC Preschool and I never went far! I continued to be very involved with the preschool ministry, as well as other ministries within the church. I was so thrilled when I was afforded the opportunity to return officially to CBC Preschool earlier this year. My job is to help connect our preschool families to the church and help them get plugged in. If you have any questions about Central Baptist Church, please do not hesitate to reach out to me!

My name is Christi Ferrell. I have three grown daughters and one teenage daughter. I also have four grandchildren! I am passionate about children. Before teaching at Central, I had an in-home daycare for over seven years. I always say you can learn a lot from children and you can never go wrong when you invest in the life of a child. I feel so blessed that I can come to work each day and teach these children. It is especially wonderful to be able to teach them in a Christian environment. Each of these children are such a gift and I am honored that I can be a part of their lives.
Hi, my name is April Washak. I’ve been working at Central since February of 2016. My husband and I currently attend Hilltop Church, where we minister through our college Sunday school class and children’s ministries. I am currently a full time student at Southeastern FWB college studying elementary education. I have committed my life to serving my Savior, wherever He may lead us. I’m happy to be able to watch your children grow and learn each day at preschool. My goal is to love them and point them closer to Jesus!
Hello! I am blessed to be part of the staff at Central Baptist Preschool. I completed my Bachelor’s degree in Child Life from East Carolina University. My husband and I have a beautiful baby girl named Melody whom we welcomed into the world in September 2015. Children’s early years are critical to their development, and having a Christ-centered foundation is the beginning to a successful future. My passion for working with children began when I took a child development class in high school. I have had various internship, practicum and volunteer opportunities in child care, early intervention and hospital settings where I have gained valuable experience in working with children. I was raised in a Christian home and at the age of thirteen, I received Jesus Christ as my Savior with all my heart. God is just amazing! I love serving the Lord and enjoy working with children. Here at Central Baptist Preschool I am able to do both! I hope to be a blessing in children’s lives and to be able to make a difference
I was born and raised in Green Bay, Wisconsin and am definitely a Packers fan! What can I say–it’s in my roots! After experiencing my fair share of the cold, I began to wonder what it would be like to move South. When I was 20 years old, someone involved in biblical research witnessed to me. I learned more about the life of Jesus and His purpose, then was saved. An opportunity to move to West Texas showed up, and after seven years there, I moved to North Carolina to raise my children and be close to family. My interest in child development began when I was raising my three children. I attempted to encourage their unique talents and gifts while teaching them responsibility and independence. When my youngest child started preschool, I volunteered in her classroom and found my niche. Even after obtaining an Associate Degree in accounting, I chose to go back to teaching children. I have an accumulation of more than 12 years of working with preschool-aged children. My philosophy is to help children grow in all areas of development, utilizing the five senses through games, music, stories, art, sharing, and playing. I also believe it is important to help children develop their language skills, independence, and problem solving skills. The classroom setting is a perfect place to help their social and emotional development as well. It is also imperative that our children learn to put their trust and thanks in the Lord. This is achieved in part by saying the blessing before meals and teaching biblical truths. These lessons help us to discuss practical ways to recognize and learn about God. My favorite thing about working with children is seeing their personalities emerge. I especially like to see them overcome a challenge by practically applying something they have learned. I want the children to be proud of their accomplishments and learn to share successfully with one another. I love being in the Grasshopper classroom and can’t wait to get to know your children more every day!
Hello! I am blessed to be a part of the CBC Preschool staff as an Afternoon Assistant! Central Baptist Church holds a special place in my heart, as I was “born and raised” here! It was because of these opportunities I knew the Lord was calling me to work full time with children. I absolutely love working with children! I count it a joy and privilege to be called a teacher! In 2012, I graduated with my Bachelors in Christian Education from Southeastern Free Will Baptist College, located in Wendell. For the two years following graduation, my husband, Jeremy, and I lived in Norton, VA. During the school year, I taught pre-K and kindergarten, and during the summer I had the privilege to work alongside my husband at Camp Jacob. In 2016 Jeremy and I welcomed our first child, Sadie, into the world! We currently live in Raleigh with our two dogs. I am looking forward to working with your child this year. My name is Kathleen Snyder and I am the K4 Co-Teacher. I am honored that you have chosen to entrust your precious little one to our care here at Central Baptist Preschool. As the mother of two, I completely understand the many emotions you may be experiencing, whether your little one has been under our care for some time or you are sending your little one off to school for the first time. I recall how I felt when the time came to send my children off to school…and now again I am experiencing a season of separation as my daughter, Meghan, is settled into college life and my son, Ryan, has finished college and begun the next phase of his life’s journey. The Lord has given me a tender heart for preschool-age children and I know my position here is a “Divine” appointment. You may contact me here at the preschool with any questions or concerns between the hours of 7-3 each day…please don’t hesitate.
