Lead Teacher, Infants
My name is Laurel Heffner. I am pleased to have been with Central Baptist Church Preschool since its opening. I served as Assistant Teacher in the Infant Room, and as Lead Teacher in both the Bumblebees and Fireflies rooms before becoming the Education Specialist in August 2015.I hold an Associate in Applied Science in Secretarial Science from The University of Akron and the State of North Carolina Early Childhood Credential. Working with children has always been rewarding to me even as a teenager working with immigrant children and being a nanny during college. For the past sixteen years I have served in preschool and children’s ministry in various capacities such as Bible Study leader, Sunday School teacher, Sunday School Preschool Director, and Vacation Bible School teacher. I have also homeschooled for ten years. My husband and I have three children. Our oldest child is working as a chemist, our middle child is a mutual fund research analyst, and our youngest enters high school in 2017. Our house of worship and service is The Passage Church in Wendell. If I were to name a life verse it would be Colossians 4:2. “Continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving.” I like to read, attend our children’s events, and spend time with my family.

Hello! My name is Erin Harris. I’ve been working at CBCP since August of 2018, and I absolutely love it here! When I’m not working as an afternoon assistant in the infant room, I’m a full time student at Southeastern FWB College studying Elementary Ed. On the weekends, I go home to Greenville, NC (go Pirates!) to go to my home church. I hope to graduate in the spring of 2021 with my bachelors, and go on to continue my education and work with precious children. Central Baptist is amazing because of the loving staff that make a great working environment and caring environment for all of our amazing babies! The Caterpillars (our infant room) have my heart, and I love getting to know each baby and their family!

Hello! I am blessed to be part of the staff at Central Baptist Preschool. I completed my Bachelor’s degree in Child Life from East Carolina University. My husband and I have two beautiful girls named Melody and Alina whom we welcomed into the world in September of 2015 and November of 2018. Children’s early years are critical to their development and having a Christ-centered foundation is the beginning to a successful future. My passion for working with children began when I took a child development class in high school. I have had various internship, practicum and volunteer opportunities in child care, early intervention and hospital settings where I have gained valuable experience in working with children. I was raised in a Christian home and at the age of thirteen, I received Jesus Christ as my Savior with all my heart. I lead worship at my church and the children will hear me singing throughout the day! I love serving the Lord and enjoy working with children. Here at Central Baptist Preschool I can do both! I hope to be a blessing in your child’s life and make a difference.
Hi, I’m Mrs. Barbie! I have an Associates Degree in Business Administration. I have learned, though, that sometimes God’s perfect plan steers us in a different direction than what we have planned! I have been working with children in various capacities for over 25 years. I have taught Sunday School, lead Bible School classes, and homeschooled all three of my children. We were also heavily involved in various cooperative education activities as a homeschool family. I have worked here at CBC Preschool at various times over the past five years. When people ask me “how do you spend your time with a room FULL of littles?” My response is simple– What a tremendous privilege that God has given me the opportunity to plant seeds for HIM! What other job allows you to instill Christ into the hearts of children, lets you love on and be loved from these precious gifts from God, and encourages you to play everyday while at work?! I’m looking forward to spending this school year with you and your little ones!

Hi! I am a retired elementary teacher with over 30 years of experience. I have a B.A. in Elementary Education from Almeda University. After retiring in November 2016, I began seeking God’s direction in what He would have me to do. I know it was God that directed me to Central Baptist Preschool. I love teaching children, especially teaching them God’s principles and Bible verses. I hope they will hide these verses in their hearts and apply them to their lives. I am excited to work with you and help you in teaching your child. I feel it is an honor and privilege that you have entrusted me with your most prized possession—your child.
Assistant Teacher, Fours
Greetings! My name is Maria Hernandez. My husband and I left our home state of California to be near our two grandsons, both students here at Central Baptist. The Lord has called me to work with children in various capacities. I love the little ones and have a passion to see them learn and grow, especially in their knowledge of the Lord. For almost a decade, I have either aided or taught in classrooms from two-year-olds to second grade, and I have been active in children’s ministry at my church. I strongly believe that the Lord has equipped me to guide children in His paths and to foster their love of learning, both in God’s Word and academics. One of my favorite passages of Scripture is, “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it” (Proverbs 22:6). This verse speaks to my heart because it shows the need for every child to have a solid foundation in their life, rooted and grounded in Christ. I am grateful to the Lord for the opportunity he gave me to join the family here at Central Baptist Preschool. I have enjoyed the privilege of partnering with my colleague, Mrs. Laurel, in nurturing our precious ones in the Caterpillars class. What amazing moments we shared in marveling at God’s development of our babies in every category: physical, emotional, and social. This year, I look forward to working with our wonderful Turtles! I am eager with anticipation for all God will do to help our children prosper in their learning and in their love for Jesus.
I graduated from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA with a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education. I have worked with children for many years in many facets. I have taught preschool, Kindergarten, piano lessons, and I have tutored. I have also worked in Children’s Church, Sunday School, and Children’s Choir at my church. I love the little ones and their curiosity to learn about everything! Christian Education is so important in the formative years. I can’t imagine doing anything else!

I love teaching little minds and having fun in the classroom. I am so excited to get this year started and learn more about YOU!
Lead Teacher, Four and Fives
My name is Kathleen Snyder and I am the lead teacher in the Pre-K Tigers class. I am honored that you have chosen to entrust your precious little one to our care here at Central Weekday Preschool.
As the mother of two, I completely understand the many emotions you may be experiencing, whether your little one has been under our care for some time or you are sending your little one off to school for the first time. I recall how I felt when the time came to send my children off to school…and now again I am experiencing a season of separation as my own young people, Meghan and Ryan, have completed their college endeavors and now, as only the Lord could have orchestrated, in His divine way, they each have begun the next phase of their life journey in the city of Chicago.
The Lord has given me a tender heart for preschool-age children and I know my position here is a “Divine” appointment. I began working with preschool-age children in 1998; and through the years, have not only been in the classroom, but have also been active in many aspects of children’s and adult ministries. My husband, Mark, and I live in Wendell and are members here at Central.
I am committed to loving, instructing, encouraging and guiding your child while he or she is in my care. Our time will not only be spent learning to recognize our ABC’s but also recognizing the need to have a relationship with our Lord and Savior…Jesus Christ.
Thank you for giving me the privilege of spending time with your child and I look forward to becoming acquainted with you and seeing what the Lord will accomplish in our lives this year.
